KANDY: A 42-year-old woman was taken into custody by Balagolla police for keeping her 73-year-old ailing father in a kennel in the garden of the house, on Tuesday (13).

A police party on patrol duty in the Kengalla saw the old father in a cage allegedly left behind by his daughter, police said.

The daughter, a mother of three, has kept the father in the cage as the father is so feeble that he cannot keep himself clean. The suspect had kept the dog in the house.

The father was employed as a waiter at a hotel in Kandy, investigations have revealed.

Balagolla police said that the woman taken into custody would be prosecuted on charges of cruelty to her father who was admitted to hospital.
